Okay, don't tell anyone, but I got my hands on next week's big exam.  Are
you guys interested in getting together today at Charlie's, say, 5pm to
figure out the answers and make ourselves some cheat sheets? Here's a copy
of the test questions, so we can start thinking about them now and come
with ideas...

1) In a pick-up game at the park,Mia Hamm, star of the United States
Women's Soccer Team scored 2 goals in the first period of play, 4 goals in
the second period, 6 goals in the third period, and eight goals in the
fourth period. In the same game, Jason Riis, amateur, scored 3 goals in
the first period, 6 goals in the second period, 12 goals in the third
period, and a whopping 24 goals in the fourth period.
a) Provide a formula for Mia's goals scored, M, as a function of period,
and a formula for Jason's goals scored, J, as a function of period.  Plot
both functions on the same graph.
b) If the game were to go into overtime, how many goals total would you
predict for Mia? For Jason?
c) According to the information available here, could Jason make the US
Women's Soccer Team?
d) Who is the better soccer player, Jason or Mia? Who looks better in a

2) The following table indicates the amount of time Shana requires to beat
Dan at arm wrestling:

a) Make a scatter plot of the data and draw an estimated regression line.
b) Find the equation of the line that best fits the data.
c) Who is fatiguing faster, Shana or Dan?  At what point do you predict
Shana will be able to knock Dan over by looking at him funny?
d) Who looks better in a skirt, Dan or Shana?
